Societies Influence Essays - Dispute Resolution, Violence

Social orders Influence Society appears to impact all ages by poisioning our brains with untruths and hostility. Hostility and hockey have gone together insofar as sports have been near, be it the players themselves, to the guardians, mentors, companions, they simply appear to be an indivisible piece of one another. The term brutality is characterized as physical assualt dependent on all out dismissal for the prosperity of self as well as other people, or the expectation to harm someone else. Hockey is by all accounts advancing savagery by communicating it everywhere throughout the world promoting it to all youngsters. There is no space for brutality in our incredible game from my planned. I have been around this game as long as I can remember and I dont accept we have to make brutality a piece of it. I have seen to numerous wounds, to numerous concusions, broken wrists and broken countenances. I have seen multi year old children attempting to kick each other with skates on. This is a mindset, that is educa ted to us hockey players. This exercise is to be rutheless to anybody and everybody. I recollect my very clench hand exercise I was in my first year in the rep framework. I was fourteen and at that age I was enormous for my size. My ncoach between the first and second time frame disclosed to me that on the off chance that I didnt go out there and lay a bone pounding body watch that I would sit next game. He accepted that all I was useful for was to be savage. I was fourteen terrified and my next move I went out there and simply squashed a player from the rival group. Starting there on the entirety of my mentor needed me to accomplish for the remainder of the period was battle. That year when I was fourteen I battled about multiple times in that season on account of the encompassing weight. The most exceedingly terrible year of my life and I never under any circumstance need to see or know about a player put in that position I was in. The round of hockey has consistently been vicious to a degree like some other game however in our best in class society it appears that brutality is impacting our round of hockey. All in all, I accept that if hockey the game should proceed with we as a general public should quit squeezing our kids and companions and simply let them have a ton of fun. Savagery will at present be a piece of the game however there will definatoly be less of it. This will make the round of hockey increasingly lovely for the majority of us individuals. To settle my paper I would simply trust that someone who might be listening is attempting to have any kind of effect to help tidy up our game so kids dont need to go throught what I did. The agony of being compelled to be fierce is serious stuff so lets stop it.

No Sugar by Jack Davis Essay Example

No Sugar by Jack Davis Essay Since the colonization of Australia through ‘white settlement’, people with great influence have held preferential mentalities towards those local to the land. In the course of the last 200 years, such perspectives has prompted a profoundly isolated society. Through the usage of sensational components, in the play â€Å"No Sugar†, Jack Davis gives a medium to investigate the hole between non-indigenous and indigenous universes. The multi-tangible experience coordinates the contemplations of the crowd, whereby arranging, props, language, sound and lighting move past the composed word, digging profound into the essence of the post-provincial context.Through a compelling amalgamation of these shows, Davis starts attitudinal changes inside a general public that is at last in struggle. A key emotional component practiced all through the play is the ‘perambulant model’ where the activity of the play moves between a few areas: on one side of the stage, the crowd can see the town of Northam and its police headquarters, and on the opposite side, the crowd can see the Moore River Settlement with the Superintendent’s Office. In his notes, Davis plots that the play is ‘designed for scattered setting on an open stage’. All through the play, this dissipated nature of organizing passes on a universe of removal and dispossession, where the Nyoongah’s are obviously isolated and unfit and reluctant to absorb to white culture. What's more Aboriginal scenes ordered in the uncovered, earthed space in the inside, described by the more round and circular lines of Dreaming, passes on an air of straightforwardness and otherworldliness, rather than the riotous universe of white administration at Neville’s office. In spite of keeping up the ir very own proportion space at the water gap and open air fire, Davis shows that all space is at last overwhelmed and constrained by white power, making definition between the two societies job in the public eye. It is significant that an association initially recognize the reasonable markets to showcase their item to, at that point gather and break down the information about the business sectors. This will empower the association to pick a progressively appropriate objective market and acquire ideal measure of advantages. The biggest section of the business sectors would be the segment fragment. Urban youth and youthful grown-ups are additionally bound to purchase solidified pizza. This is most likely in light of the fact that when in a metropolitan zone, life moves quicker and purchasing solidified pizza diminishes times spent on getting ready food incredibly, making more opportunity for different exercises. Finally would be the social section. This portion comprises of factors, for example, events, client status, client rate, etc. We have discovered that solidified pizza is a typical sight when going to local gatherings and off the cuff gatherings or social affairs. One reason solidified pizza is a most loved is on the grounds that it is anything but difficult to serve food to a lot of individuals without experiencing an extensive procedure of planning food. As an end, from this investigation, when showcasing our two new items, we would have the option to grow increasingly explicit procedures to suit the requirements of the client and acquire the most noteworthy measure of benefit. c) Develop proper advertising blend methodology. Advertising as per advertisers is characterized as placing the correct item in the opportune spot, at the correct cost, at the perfect time. We will likewise be setting up corners to advance our new item alongside tests and coupons for customers in the supermarket to draw in them to purchase this item, this should empower us to acquire the focused on client base quicker. The third ‘P’ during the 4Ps speaks to Price. As we are concentrating on size in this item, our item should be the equivalent or less cost as our competitor’s yet present a bigger sum. As there are many different organizations selling solidified pizzas, value wars have been neck-to-neck. Rather than being the least expensive in value, we will value our pizza to such an extent that it is in the middle of our competitor’s costs so clients won't judge our item for being excessively modest and partner our item with low quality or partner our item with being excessively overrated. In conclusion would be Promotion. We are wanting to advance our item in TV, radio, film and board commercials when 2 days after our item dispatch. We will likewise have our limited time stalls around shopping centers to welcome customers to attempt our item and furthermore hand out coupons to additionally convince them to purchase our item. We are planning to dispatch some place during summer as individuals are busiest and local gatherings are generally visit during these occasions. This promoting blend will likewise be changed occasionally to additionally take into account the requirements of clients and increment consumer loyalty, and increment overall revenues. d) Develop a fitting serious promoting methodology. While discharging another item into a market with existing contenders, advertisers need to utilize an alternate methodology when promoting their item. Generally adopting an inappropriate strategy, new items attempting to rival more seasoned items with a built up client base isn't simple. Advertisers should fall back on utilizing an unexpected methodology in comparison to the standard methodology. A portion of different brands that Pizza Pan’s biggest contenders when entering the market would be U.S Pizza, Dominos Pizza and Pizza Hut. These Pizza organizations have just settled their client base and an enormous assortment of decisions. Be that as it may, since just being the three biggest pizza makers, they exploit clients by expanding their costs to considerably more than what their pizzas are worth. Pizza Pan can exploit this by giving clients an elective which has more an incentive for cash. In any case, Pizza Pan must be mindful so as to not put a value which is unreasonably low, for clients have an inclination for picking an item which is progressively costly, relating its cost with quality.

Growing Up As A Negro In The South In The Early 1900s Is Not That Eas

Growing up as a Negro in the South in the mid 1900's isn't so natural, for certain individuals will in general endure various types of abuse. For this situation, it occurs in the life account called Black Boy composed by Richard Wright. The tale is set in the early piece of the 1900's, some place in profound Jim Crow South. Richard Wright, who is clearly the fundamental character, is additionally the hero. The adversary is nobody individual specifically, for it takes a wide range of structures called abuse as a rule. The fundamental character over comes this mistreatment by defying the basic jobs of the dark, Jim Crow society. Richard Wright's character was influenced in youth by the impacts of cultural abuse, yet he turned into an incredible American creator in spite of these negative factors throughout his life. Today everybody experiences some type of mistreatment. One of the structures Richard is experiencing is called cultural mistreatment. For instance, after Richard sees a dark kid whipped by a white man, he asks his mom for what reason did the occurrence occur. His mom says, ?The white man didn't whip the dark boy...He beat the dark kid, ' (31). This statement is demonstrating bigotry, which is one method of society keeping Richard Wright, and every single other dark in the South down. Another model is when is at the rail street station with his mom, and as they are sitting tight for the train, he sees something he has never observed, ...just because I saw that there were two lines of individuals at the ticket window, a white line and a dark line, (55). This passage is showing how this scene of Jim Crow laws is keeping a specific gathering of individuals separated, which is additionally another type of cultural mistreatment. Cultural mistreatment happens again when Richard is spending time with his companions, and their discussion with one another leads on to the subject of war. One of his companions truly get into the subject and says, ?Yeah, they send you to war, make you lick them Germans, show you how to battle and when you return they frightened of you,' (90). This statement implies that the white individua ls put the dark individuals on the bleeding edge to safeguard our nation, and when they return, they can not acknowledge them, subsequently they abuse them in various ways, which is cultural mistreatment. The last model happens when Richard needs to get a library card, thus he contemplates asking his chief. In the wake of considering it for some time, he realized he was unable to ask him, for he realizes the supervisor is a Caucasian Baptist, and Richard imagines that he would not have the option to acknowledge the reality of a dark kid, for example, Richard, would need to peruse and develop his knowledge. This would be viewed as cultural persecution, for he realizes his manager doesn't need Richard to be illuminated with books, thusly keeping Richard away from the light of information. These are instances of cultural mistreatment that Richard Wright survives and ascends to the top all alone. Disguised mistreatment is a hard thing to survive. One of the ways Richard Wright is gone up against with disguised persecution is the point at which he sees a dark kid being beaten by a white man, so he consequently believes that the white man is the young men father. ...Didn't all dads, similar to my dad, reserve the privilege to beat their kids? A fatherly right was the main right, to my comprehension... (31). This extract is indicating disguised mistreatment, for he thinks it is alright for a parent to mishandle their kid, thusly having the youngster believe that beating a kid is alright, and just a parent can do the beating, which is totally off-base. Another instance of disguised abuse happens when Richard says a terrible word, and afterward his Aunt Jody addresses him by saying, ?Richard, you are an awful, awful kid,' (108). Later in the section, he additionally says that he couldn't care less that he is a terrible kid. That expresses that Richard accepts that he is a terrible individual, which implies he is encountering disguised mistreatment. Later in the novel, after Richard read a few books,

You gotta have stuff

You gotta have stuff Im taking a break from my weekend of watching Lost episodes downloaded from iTunes and buying furniture for the new apartment to do a public service announcement on where to buy stuff for your future hypothetical dorm room. First, the website for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is here and Google Maps is here. Learn to love these websites. I spent a great deal of the summer before my freshman year at MIT on the internet figuring out where my favorite stores and restaurants were, and how best to get there via public transportation. Public transportation stuff Public transportation in Boston is not as great as it is in, say, Washington, DC, but its good enough for you the college student. MIT is served by the Kendall Square stop on the Red Line, which is at the northeast corner of campus; other close stops are Hynes/ICA (right across the Charles River), Central (very close to Random Hall), and BU Central (across the BU bridge from the far west end of campus). The #1 bus stops at 77 Massachusetts Avenue and goes to Harvard Square in one direction and across the river to Dudley Station in the other. As an MIT student, youre eligible to purchase a discounted monthly T pass. If you dont ride the subway enough for this to be worthwhile, you can just pay each time each subway ride is $1.25 and each bus ride is $0.90. Notice: The T subway map is artistically rendered and does not actually reflect cartographic reality in Boston. Once freshman year, I had gotten my hair cut near Downtown Crossing and thought Id walk to Faneuil Hall for dinner. The two stops appear to be in a straight line from each other on the T map, so I figured Id be fine. Yeah, not so much. I ended up getting lost in Boston by myself at night, which is not really a great idea for a girl, all things considered. (I mean, Boston is generally a safe city. But its still not a good idea to wander around by yourself at night.) General stuff Theres a Target within walking distance of Andrew Station on the Red Line. (Actually, Adam and I found this Target last summer when we got lost on the way to the zoo. I get lost a lot.) If theres anything you need for your dorm room, Im almost positive you can find it at Target. Theres also a Bed, Bath Beyond right next to the Fenway Station on the Green Line D Branch. (This is not, incidentally, where you would go if you wanted to see a Sox game youd go to Kenmore Station.) So far as I know, there isnt a Walmart conveniently serviced by the T. Mall stuff The closest mall to campus is the Cambridgeside Galleria. The Galleria is serviced by a free shuttle to and from the Kendall Square T stop, which comes every 20 minutes. I almost always take the shuttle, because Im lazy, but the mall is definitely within walking distance of campus and its no problem to walk there. The Galleria has all of the clothing stores that I personally require, because I could live quite happily if every clothing store on earth except American Eagle, Victorias Secret, and Abercrombie and Fitch closed down. But it also has important stuff like a Best Buy, a CVS, and a Kay Jewelers (*hint to my boyfriend*). Prudential Center and Copley Place (which is connected to the Pru through a walkway) are slighty higher-end malls. These are not really malls which have anything practical, so Im only mentioning them for frivolous girls like myself who like to shop at Sephora, Jasmine Sola, and FCUK. And for frivolous girls like myself who like to window-shop at Tiffany. You can get to them on the Green Line, or you could take the #1 bus across the bridge and walk. The Boston East Saferide services the Pru as well. Or you could, you know, just walk. There are also a lot of free-standing stores on Newbury Street and in the area around Harvard Square. Food stuff Star Market is right behind Random and is a general supermarket. Prices can be kind of high, but I think thats true of most chain supermarkets. If you go at night, Cambridge West Saferide (the evening campus shuttle) goes right past it you can catch the shuttle and not have to carry your groceries home. Theres another Star Market between the Prudential Center and Copley Place malls. Another thing if you plan to buy a lot of groceries, you can do one of several things: steal a shopping cart (hey, Im not advocating it, just saying people do it), buy a small shopping cart or share the purchase with friends (they sell them at Star for ~$25), or suck it up and carry your groceries all the way home. My favorite is option #2. Adams favorite is anything but option #3, because I always make him carry the heavy bags. Trader Joes is more of a niche supermarket they carry a lot of private-label foods and I suppose are geared more toward people who want to eat healthy food. Its surprisingly cheap, considering how good (in both the delicious sense and the healthy sense) the food is. I would recommend it to anybody. Theres one right across from Prudential Center as well as another up Memorial Drive (go as far west on campus as you can on Memorial Drive, then keep going west for about a mile). Haymarket is the farmers market in the city on weekend mornings. You can get great deals on fruit, vegetables, bread, and meat (ie 5 pounds of potatoes for $1 that sort of thing) however, you can also get stuck with bug-infested or moldy produce. Try to go to the stalls that let you pick your own selection, and keep an eye out for the signs of older/rotting food. (I adore Haymarket. But I am also one of those people who really, really likes vegetables.) Laverdes is the grocery store in the student center. They have most of the stuff the average student needs on a day-to-day basis (and they take TechCash), but I wouldnt advise buying all your groceries from them if you plan to cook. They have a very convenient location for most MIT students, and their prices reflect this. As far as convenience stores go, theres also a 7-11 in Tech Square and MacGregor Convenience on the first floor of MacGregor. If you like to order food (and really, what college student doesnt?), I would suggest checking out Campusfood.com. Questions 1. Anonymous asked, If I got a 5 on the English Language AP exam but I just know that I wont get a 5 on the Lit, do I still count as having passed the FEE? To which another anonymous commenter replied Anonymous, yes, passing either will place you out of FEE. From this link: Communication Requirement A score of 5 on either the Language and Composition or Literature and Composition test is considered equivalent to passing the Freshman Essay Evaluation (FEE). If you have passed the FEE , you are still required to take a communication-intensive subject your first year as part of the Communication Requirement. You do, however, have a wider range of communication-intensive subjects to choose from than students who have not demonstrated competency in the FEE. Scores lower than 5 on either examination are not considered equivalent to passing the FEE. The FEE, for those who dont know, is the Freshman Essay Evaluation. Its not a huge deal, but if you fail it youre required to take a certain writing-intensive humanities class first semester. Again, I will stress that its not a huge deal. So dont start worrying yet. But as Anonymous #2 pointed out, a score of 5 on either AP Language or AP Lit will get you out of the FEE. (I got a 5 on AP Lit, so Ive never taken the FEE. Woot.) 3. A third anonymous commenter asked, Even though you are graduating this year is there a remote possibility that you may be present during freshman or international orientation? Theres more than just a remote chance. :) Actually, as Im sure it will bowl you over with joy to know, Adam and I are moving to Westgate in three weeks. Westgate is also known as W85. So not only will I be here for Orientation, I will be living on the MIT campus all year! Hooray! Everybodys welcome to come by the apartment and chat. Ill probably have cookies.

MBA Big Brand Theory Series Northwestern Kellogg

Episode 2 in our Big Brand Theory Series for MBA applicants: Northwestern Kellogg. Two days before Kellogg’s Dean Sally Blount announced Kellogg’s motto change from â€Å"Think Bravely† to â€Å"Inspiring Growth,† I received an email and video link in my inbox from my education hero, Sal Khan about why he will never tell his son that he is smart. His Khan Academy disrupted the education paradigm and made me a super fan years ago when my then, 10-year-old son ran into my arms, but not for a hug†¦no, he wanted my computer so he could earn badges. At first I thought he was planning to play a game. I limited his computer use to 15 minutes and then watched him open up the Khan Academy site and whiz through math problems that were two grades ahead of his own (earning his badges along the way). I didn’t take the computer away until dinnertime. His love for the Khan Academy reminded me of Dr. Carol Dweck’s research on motivation, success and the growth mindset. I had read her work a few years before my son fell in love with the Khan Academy. In her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, which I highly recommend if you are applying to Kellogg, she compares and contrasts growth-oriented minds and fixed minds. The growth mindset is something to behold, and I watched it unfold over the years as my son solved my husband’s 5X5X5 Rubik’s cube, conquered my father in chess, and created â€Å"inventions† that he thought would make my life easier. I love the way his mind works. Thank you, Sal Khan and Thank you, Carol Dweck. However, as a former admission dean and director, I often wondered when I would see Dr. Dweck’s concepts flourish in business schools. While I think several schools filter applicants for growth mindsets and challenge their students to stretch themselves, Kellogg’s new brand strategy was the first time I’ve seen Dr. Dweck’s approach become the very essence of the school. Just as the growth mindset is dynamic and constantly seeks challenges and change, Kellogg has also reinvented itself many times over. I don’t think people will ever get over the fact that Kellogg is a marketing giant. However, since Dean Blount’s arrival, they’ve moved from â€Å"Team-Oriented† to â€Å"Think Bravely† to â€Å"Inspiring Growth† in the span of just a few years. These moves are reflected in their essay prompts, in their video essays, and in their interviews. You as an applicant need to respond to this change and address the filters Kellogg has added to its admissions process. When working with clients applying to Kellogg, I always discuss my clients’ greatest challenges; then I push and push and push, until we discover something that they were initially afraid to reveal. If you are doing this yourself, realize that this inquiry means going deep within your psyche to figure out if you truly have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset (and I always recommend reading Dr. Dweck’s research. See link to her book above). If at the end of our meetings my clients realize that they are not happy stretching, taking risks, and testing themselves, I ask them to rethink their school choice. Yes, Kellogg students are team-oriented; yes, Kellogg students are bright; yes, Kellogg students are personable, but Dean Blount got it right: Kellogg students are intellectually curious. They are resourceful. They challenge themselves to go beyond what they think are their limits. They have a growth mindset, and Kellogg inspires that growth. For you the Kellogg motto means showing that you have the mindset to benefit from and contribute to Kellogg’s community dedicated to growth. As you apply to Kellogg demonstrate that you share Kellogg’s commitment to growth as an individual and as a future leader of your community and the business world. Atticus Finch The Face Of The Modern Hero - 1789 Words

Atticus Finch: The Face of the Modern Hero Many types of heroes exist in the real and fictional worlds of today, but the modern hero is the most powerful and effective. A modern hero possesses powers such as intelligence, self-control, and a strong will. Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, does not go on a mythical quest like the classic hero but searches within himself for the courage and integrity to do what is right and change the reality around him. Atticus Finch is a lawyer living in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s, a time known as the Great Depression. Atticus Finch is a heroic character who must face the adversities that the racist prejudice of Maycomb County residents put him through and raise his children, Jem and Scout, in the way he sees as morally correct. Atticus believes in the goodness of all people and that a man should always stand by his belief no matter what the outcome is. Because of their father’s moral code, Jem and Scout are exposed to the judgment of the society when their father agrees to defend a black man, Tom Robinson, falsely accused of raping a white women. Jem and Scout watch as their society battles within itself to resolve issues of equality and justice. K-means algorithm is widely used and famous algorithm for analysis of clusters. In this algorithm, n number of data points are divided into k clusters based on some similarity measurement criterion. K-Means Algorithm has fast speed and thus is used commonly clustering algorithm. Vector quantization, cluster analysis, feature learning are some of the application of K-Means.However results generated using this algorithm are mainly dependant on choosing initial cluster centroids. The main shortcome of this algorithm is to provide appropriate number of clusters.Provision of number of clusters before applying the algorithm is highly impractical and requires deep knowledge of clusteringShow MoreRelatedProject Proposal ( Option 3 )944 Words   |   4 Pageson is K-means clustering. Explaining what my parents do for a living is not the easiest. No, they aren’t school teachers or police officers or even the typical dad goes to work at the office while mom stays home with the kids and the apron. That would be too easy. So when the question arises, â€Å"what do your parents do for a living?† I answer with a usual shrug and sigh: â€Å"They are professional ballroom dancers.† It was the Fourth of July and my family was over celebrating and enjoying the refreshing pool. While sitting around, sharing stories, and catching up, my aunt turned and asked, â€Å"Lauren, what are you going to do when you graduate?† This is a question so simple. But it’s so difficult for me to answer. As I grabbed for a potato chip and overloaded it in dip, I pondered the question. Typically this would be answered with the regular response of going off to college and becoming a teacher or doctor. I’ve enjoyed writing, but after taking creative writing, advanced composition, and journalism, I found my passion. I could accept a job at a dance studio after I graduate High School, but that would be too easy and settling for less. Instead of taking the job and forgetting my dream of becoming a successful journalist, I chose to make my own footsteps. Even though college will be difficult and achieving my dream will be challenging, It will be worth it. It will be mine. I will make my parents proud. By not becoming what they want me to be, but by becoming what I want to be.

Modern History Battle of the Nations

Question: Discuss about theModern Historyfor Battle of the Nations. Answer: Research Question Following the fall of Napoleon from the catastrophic retreat from Russia to the Battle of the Nations, he chose to surrender to the allies. Prussia, Great Britain, Russia, and Austria came together in 1814 to discuss what should happen to France (Snyder, 2002). The general mood was that this nation must remain intact so as to maintain the balance of power in Europe. My interest in this particular topic is to elaborate on the Concert of Europe as well as the causes of World War I. I am also interested in finding out the various contributions of the balance of power in World War I. Therefore, my research question that I will try to answer as I carry out my research will be, What was the contribution of balance of power in World War I? Hypothesis In this research study, a possible hypothesis to the relevance of the cause of the First World War might be changes in the balance of power during Napoleons reign eventually resulted in World War I since it was difficult for one country to dominate Europe. Research Design I will test or falsify my hypothesis by looking at the Independent Variables that have relevance for the Dependent Variables. For this particular topic, the Independent Variables include judgment of leaders, economic authority, offensive capabilities and decline of empires. These are relevant to my chosen hypothesis which represents the Dependent Variables. I intend to carry out my research by using the Internet, and information from peer reviewed and academic journal articles. I will also use information found at the University Learning Resource Centre library. Research Findings Variable #1: Judgment of Leaders The Concert of Europe was the equilibrium of power that was present in Europe starting with the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte up to the emergence of the First World War (Steiner, 2005). The founding leaders included Austria, the United Kingdom, Prussia, and Russia. These were also affiliates of the 6th Coalition accountable for the decline of Napoleon I. During this time, France managed to establish itself as a fifth member of this particular alliance. Among the leading members of the system were British international Secretary Lord Castlereagh, the Tsar of Russia Alexander I, and Austrian Chancellor Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich (Manila, 2007). Also referred to as the Congress System, the Concert of Europe was an outcome of a tradition taken on by the ancient great authorities of Europe of meeting often in an International Conference to strategize a solution by joint agreement. This took place whenever an issue arose that was seen as a threat to peace between European countries. Surprisingly, the Concert did not have real liability and stood for European interests, not those of the non-European or colonized states. Notably, war was not absurd for the Concert of Europe, as long as it occurred outside Europe. The leaders in charge within the Congress System aimed at containing France after years of war. They also wanted to attain a balance of power between Europes great authorities while upholding the defensive preparations made at the Congress of Vienna between 1814 and 1815 (Darwin, 2009). The Concert of Europes leaders wanted to prevent the rise of another Napoleon personality which would lead to an additional continent-wide war. Initially, the idea of the Concert was suggested by the Austrian Chancellor, Kaunitz. At the time, the fear of revolution was quite high to the extent of European powers not resting contended until they had come up with some means to safeguard the intransience of Vienna Settlement. The meetings that were to be held, focused on the dialogue of measures that would be judged to be most helpful for the success and repose of the countries, together with the preservation of peace of Europe (Snyder, 2002). Under the leadership and guidance of the Austrian Chancellor, the Quadruple Alliance as it came to be recognized eventually established a dictatorship of the Powers. However, after holding at least four meetings, the Concert broke up in 1823. During the first meeting of the Concert at Aix-la-Chapelle, the Austrian Chancellor remarked that it symbolized the pinnacle of the structure by which the united Powers would set up a joint control over the dealings of all global states. Notably, Napoleon had also previously forwarded his own plan for the welfare of Europe (Legro Moravcsik, 2000). There was a difference of opinion between England and Austria, and Russia regarding the foundation on which France was to be let into the club. While Russia proposed that it be admitted by adhering to the principles of the Holy Alliance, England and Austria felt that France should be admitted through a treaty alliance with the 4 Powers and that was done (Thomas, 2008). In order to please Czar Alexande r, a powerful declaration was issued with regards to the objectives and purpose of the honorable pentarchy. The rights of the people were to be strictly observed, the arts of peace were to be safeguarded, the wealth of the state increased, and the sentiments of religion and morality awakened. This was to be done as an example of concord and justice. In the course of the meetings, the King of Sweden was called upon by the Congress to provide explanations as to why he had overlooked the agreement rights concerning Denmark and Norway (Steiner, 2005). The leader of Monaco was also ordered to advance the executive system of his nation. The Congress addressed the issue of the unclear succession to the Duchy of Baden, and discussed the status of the Jewish citizens in Russia and Austria. Soon enough, certain differences arose among the leaders, differences which increased with the course of time. These were due to the differing interests and joint jealousy of the leaders concerned. With regards to the issue of Barbary pirate in the Mediterranean Sea, the Czar cited that there should be a foreign navy fleet to monitor the waters while stamping out pirates especially in that region. Castlereagh greatly opposed this because he suspected presence of Russian war ships in the Mediterranean Sea (Manila, 2007). Additionally, Fredrick William o f Prussia proposed that an allied army commanded by Wellington of Britain be permanently positioned at Belgium in order to suppress any revolutions anywhere in Europe. Castlereagh refused for fear that Britain might be dragged into any war which other powers thought necessary. The congress of Aix-la-Chapelle was followed by a period of unrest progression in Europe. Not only was there a revolution in Sicily and Naples against Ferdinand I, king of Naples, but also disturbances in Germany. By 1827, the Congress System which had been established by the great Powers to solve European issues that came as a result of Napoleonic wars and the French Revolution failed to attain its goals. Variable #2: Economic Authority The British Foreign Minister, Castlereagh, declined to consent to any offer either to bring colonies back under Spain or even intercede between them and Spain unless British wellbeing in those settlements were protected beforehand (Darwin, 2009). As a way of suppressing slave trade, Great Britain recommended that European states work out a joint right of search for slaves. This was however not acknowledged on the basis of the jealousy of the naval power of Great Britain. Furthermore, no nation was ready to tolerate such intrusion with the trade. It was finally decided that no action could be in use against slavery. It is maintained that a global guarantee of the status quo would have led to the organized suppression of constitutionalism, tolerance and nationalism in Europe. The declaration would have also acted as a campaign against the progressive forces of Europe, thus proving lethal to her dominance in the world (Snyder, 2002). Moreover, there would have been no alliance of German y and Italy. It would also have been quite difficult to divide Holland and Belgium in spite of the complaints of the latter. The main query was whether or not the Powers had any right to interfere in the inside affairs of a State simply on the basis of the status quo being upset in a certain nation. The British position was that she was not ready to embrace the universal code of international authority. However, she was ready to consider partly the involvement whenever an emergency came up in any nation. This nation refused the notion that the joint force of the Allies was to be prostituted in support of the reputable order without any thought of the extent to which it was abused (Legro Moravcsik, 2000). According to Castlereagh, the Alliance was never aimed at the union of worldwide governments or suppression of revolutionary campaigns in every corner of Europe regardless of their values. The over-extension of rival empires such as the Moguls, East Asian empires, or Ottomans, resulted in decentralization which spurred competition and innovation. Following numerous revolutions in 1848, the government sought more centrality and anchoring of everything around the Vienna capital. In 1867, the Austro-Hungarian compromise established the two as a dual monarchy. However, this system together with its many constituent nationalities collapsed with World War I (Thomas, 2008). As much as possible, the Congress of Vienna returned control to the conventional ruling houses of Europe such as the Habsburgs, and the Bourbons. In order to prevent any single nation from attempting to control all of Europe as France had done under Napoleon Bonaparte, the Congress insisted on a balance of power. Nations such as Prussia, Austria, and Russia would have considerable strength. 1870 to 1914 witnessed a Europe that was significantly more firm than that of previous years. This was as a result of the establishment of novel states in Italy and Germany, combined with opinionated reformations in older, developed states such as Austria and Britain (Steiner, 2005). Coupled with scientific progressions of the Industrial Revolution, this internal stability meant that European states were ever more capable and eager to chase political powers internationally. When the worth of these novel technologies became evident, the states of Europe started taking control of large swathes of la nd in Asia and Africa, introducing a novel era of imperialism. The notion of a German state had survived since the establishment of the Kingdom of Germany in the early middle Ages. The commencement of popular nationalism in Germany has its roots in Napoleons invasion of the German land in 1806 (Manila, 2007). Napoleons political machinations encouraged nationalist feelings. Furthermore, most German leaders understood that there was potency in collaborating together. Such an acceptance was to result to inter-state cooperation across the area, the most noteworthy illustration being the Zollverein. This referred to customs union that constituted most of northern Germany by the early 1830s (Darwin, 2009). Both economic and nationalistic factors were taken advantage of by the conventional King of Prussia, William I and his head minister, Otto von Bismarck. These two individuals understood the worth of a unified German state, particularly one that did not include Austrian influence. Tsar Alexander II came to supremacy by using the overpowering in the Crimean War as the key momentum to reform. According to him, Russia needed to adhere to the European representation so as to grow to be more influential. Alexander II would eventually end the covert police started by Nicholas I and establish public trials that had expert judges with state salaries and juries (Snyder, 2002). Local provincial councils known as Zemstvos were also established and elected by the people. They addressed local government issues such as educational institutions and roads. Despite such moves by Alexander II, unrest still continued in Russia. In 1860, Russians established the city of Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean and started constructing the Trans-Siberian railroad that would link the East to the West. With regards to Japan, it modeled European militarism and industrialization during this period to increase its concentration on China and gain dominance over Korea. It is this expansion that helped cause World War I, marking the first major triumph of a non-Western authority over a Western one (Legro Moravcsik, 2000). Variable #3: Offensive Capabilities The Concert of Europes main achievement was the safeguarding of sovereignty for Greece and Belgium by 1831. In 1840, the authorities except France arbitrated in defense of the Ottoman Empire to end Egypts 8-year occupation of Syria (Thomas, 2008). The pattern of cooperative behavior witnessed in the Concert of Europe during early 19th Century is as a result of a commitment to uphold the settlement, which hinged on the integrity of enforcement threats and an allotment of advantages corresponding with military capabilities. The balance was self-enforcing in that powers that could oppose an alteration of the system had incentives to do so, while those that could upset it did not have incentives to do so (Steiner, 2005). Notably, offensive realists would see any Concert as being at best short-lived. However, constructivists and neorealists would cite that potential balancing of power, multilateral organizations and normative values would award more flexibility within the Concert so as to accommodate transforming conditions and power uniformities. Defensive practicality offers a better record of the Concert of Europe because it merges structural pragmatism with non-realist theories of state inclinations (Manila, 2007). A school of thought recognized as offensive practicality argues that foreign chaos tends to drive states to enlarge whenever a chance presents itself. This is to say that there is no status quo authorities in the foreign structure, save for the rare hegemon that desires to preserve its controlling status over likely rivals. So far, it has been established that the Concert of Europes associates were actually good defensive realists. However, they reacted to structural limitations as they did mainly because their local administrations and leaders were moderate and cautious. Notably, most powers are too weak to make a run for regional hegemony, but still act impolitely to gather as much control as they can since states are more or less always better off with more rather than less authority (Darwin, 2009). Making latent and definite military authority criteria for being a great power usually means not including some states that impose moderation. A number of researchers consider Prussia an immense power throughout the 19th Century, but is only recognized when Otto van Bismarck takes control. Moreover, postwar West Germany is also left out because it did not have the military power to contend with the superpowers. However, this was simply because Western occupation prohibited it from doing so. Concerts are considered to be providers of an insurance policy or the guarantors of last resort, capable of defending minimum standards of the order in foreign society of states. They also design specific agreements to maximize the welfare of their members together with the larger system on whose behalf they operate. Concerts have the luxury of searching for lost opportunities to establish an optimum world (Snyder, 2002). With reference to the Concert of Europe, given that the defeated ex-hegemons are at their point of maximum relative weakness immediately after the war, but benefit relatively afterward, their offensive capabilities, unifying fear and concert cooperation eventually increased over time. Whether or not collective security can work in the novel Europe is a critical issue which underlies much contemporary discussion over how to react to the waning of the Cold War. It is argued that many of the causes of war that produced conflict in the course of the first half of the 20 th Century have either been terminated or substantially moderated. Despite this, it is clear that those involved in the Concert of Europe had specific strategies as to how to conquer their targeted territories. Variable #4: Decline of Empires The demise of the Concert of Europe was a rather slow process where demands for revision of Viennas frontiers along national lines deteriorated it. Italians and Germans wanted to combine their small states, while parts of the Austrian Empire wanted autonomy. The Concert was further weakened by consecutive wars between participants which it was meant to bar the Crimean War of 1854 1856, the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, the Italian War of Independence of 1859, and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 1871 (Legro Moravcsik, 2000). The British Foreign Minister Lord Edward Grey made all efforts to convene the Concert of Europe to prevent the First World War but was unsuccessful. Some historians have described the Concert as being the opposite of a foreign organization that is demanding to work within the boundaries of international law since it did not have a secretariat or rules of behavior. It was through this particular letdown that made Lord Grey and others more strong-minded to set up a body which could call a meeting of key powers at little notice to try and stop war. This is what developed into the League of Nations. The fact that the Concert of Europe lacked an official mechanism meant that the novel body would include one, and affiliate states would entrust themselves to its agreement which included acceptance of rules not to resort to war (Thomas, 2008). The enormous Powers were combating each other for state interests and had refused to negotiate to maintain peace, one of Metternichs main objectives for Europe. The grounds of the Crimean War were also different from the standards of the Concert of Europe because Russia wanted to take lead of the fast deteriorating Ottoman Empire (Steiner, 2005). Initially, Metternich aimed at preventing any country from gaining absolute control of this particular Empire, thus obliterating the balance of power. It is assume that World War I was quite significant in that it heralded the conclusion of empires and the introduction of novel nation-states. Yet, in August 1914, none had the least notion that the War would be long or even significant (Manila, 2007). Notably, it was not before 3 long years of war of erosion that empires, starting with the Russian one, would eventually start to fall apart. To suggest that Europe was in a sate of shock following Napoleons defeat of Prussia and Austria in 1806 would be an understatement. At the time, it appeared that the normal order of things had been shifted on its head. Soon after the collapse of Napoleons empire in 1814, the great Power settled down to the job of redefining the political system, giving birth to the Concert of Europe. World War I witnessed the majestic empires of Britain and France mobilized to assist imperial war and European efforts. The War also set free an unparalleled ideological challenge to colonial rule which was embodied in the notions of Woodrow Wilson taking the form through the mandatory system (Darwin, 2009). Even though Britain came out triumphant from World War I, its empire was far from safe. It had been required to pull back from the majority of its martial pledges around the peripheries of the former Tsarist Empire, withdraw from Turkey, and agree to a novel legitimate settlement in Egypt which reduced its political power. Nonetheless, colonial empires had attained a tipping peak in the early 1920s. Conquering and triumph of the total wars of the 20th Century were of great importance. Combat zone crush for the Ottomans, Russians, and Germans together with resultant revolutions and interior political disintegration guaranteed that their pre-war imperial lands would undergo a form of decolonization in the conflicts aftermath (Snyder, 2002). What has the research revealed about the variables chosen as a method to test the hypothesis? With regards to the variables chosen as a method to test the hypothesis, this research has revealed that the great Powers acted so as to contain the violence and prevent the emergence of a general conflict (Legro Moravcsik, 2000). Additionally, the Crimean War was fashioned to destroy Russia sea power. Are the variables relevant? Yes, the variables are relevant. How so and what is their importance in proving the hypothesis? The variables are relevant in that they provide literal facts concerning the subject matter and prove the hypothesis that changes in the balance of power during Napoleons reign eventually led to World War I since it was difficult for one country to dominate the whole of Europe. Conclusion With the end of the First World War, many argued that NATO and other Cold War security organizations were becoming less significant to the Wests security. This prompted various analysts to look back to the early 19th Century Concert of Europe as a representation for addressing security issues. Furthermore, foreign relations theorists have also used this Concert to establish theories about security organizations for many years. The Concert of Europe was a key diplomatic evolution which institutionalized the practice of meeting together for crisis management. Theoretically, a greater flow of information means more transparency. With this in mind, I believe that the variables discussed above have proved my hypothesis. It was difficult for one nation to have complete control over Europe and differences emerging from such disagreements resulted to World War I. References Darwin, J. (2009). The Tempest. An Imperialist Heaven or Hell Argumentative Essay Example For Students

The Tempest. An Imperialist Heaven or Hell? Argumentative Essay Shakespeare lived and wrote in the Elizabethan age, a time when his society was branching out and making itself known throughout the world by colonizing other cultures. Great Britain was reaching for new heights of power. In the play Shakespeare questions the value of this new concept of British imperialism. The Tempest is called Shakespeares American play, because he calls into question Englands right to colonize other nations, much as American colonists did with America 200 years later. The Tempest was Shakespeares last play. For his entire life he had written plays to please the Queen. For this play it appears he made a controversial statement by challenging the values of his Queen and his country. Evidence of this is abundant in the play. The story rotates around the fact that Prospero, a European noble, had imposed himself on an island, already inhabited. Prospero is depicted as a worthy man, who was usurped from his throne. The reader has automatic sympathy for the character. T his allows him more leeway for wrong doing by creating room for it within the readers mind. Prospero came to the island with his daughter to find it already inhabited by two savages. Upon arrival, Prospero brought his new ideas with him, and began to force them upon these two savages, Sycorax and Caliban. He believed that his new ideas were better, such as slavery opposed to freedom, which he imposed on Caliban. We will write a custom essay on The Tempest. An Imperialist Heaven or Hell? Argumentative specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Dull thing, I say so; he, that Caliban,Whom now I keep in my service. (Act. I, Sc. II, Ln. 285,6)This view of whose ideas were better is an obvious matter of opinion, one of the biggest drawbacks to transforming old ideas into new. Prospero was the first male that Caliban had seen in his life. As a lower being Caliban worshipped and praised Prospero, as the quote below shows, until Prospero began to mistreat him. I know it by thy trembling: now Prosper works upon thee(Act II, Sc. II, Ln. 81-3)This worship caused Prospero to act as a ruler above him, eventually pushing him to be the tyrant over Caliban, including robbing Caliban of his freedom. Keeping within his worship, Caliban lost his self-confidence and any drive for good deeds. Because Prospero had imposed himself upon Caliban, Calibans life began to decline. Without drive, or freedom for that matter, Caliban turned to a vegetable only working as a slave to Prospero. Again, the act of asserting that your ideas are superior can cause indelible harm to the recipient of that opinion. Throughout these ordeals, Prospero thought that he was helping Caliban, (again opinion) while actually destroying him. But these supposed helpful teachings to Caliban eventually turned on Prospero. Near the end of the play, Caliban finds Stephano and Trinculo on the island. These men appeared to be much like Prospero in dress, and in speech. Because he had been trained by Prospero to worship and follow, he immediately began to worship Stephano and Trinculo. This is what turned against him. By that time, Caliban had developed a deep hatred for Prospero and sought revenge against him. He discussed killing Prospero in his sleep with Stephano and Trinculo, which they agreed to because they would gain control of the island. Prospero escaped death by a hair, in that he had a sprite, Ariel, to spy on the plotting Englishmen. This was an example of his own imperialistic ideas turned against him, leading almost to his death. But these wrongs did not stop at Prospero and Caliban. New ideas were imposed also by Ariel, Prosperos servant sprite. Ariel was a lively spirit that was immortal, and therefor capable of much more than any human. Ariel proposed new ideas to the king, Alonso and all of his men, Gonzalo, Antonio, Sebastian, Adrian and Francisco. These men had perceived themselves as almighty as they paraded around the island in fear of nothing. Ariel enlightened them to their fault and may have even shown them their mistakes.
